How often did it occur that one manufacturer built a DIRECT successor to another car from another manufacturer? And not in a spiritual sense with 25 years inbetween the cars. And which one was the least worst?

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I am asking because the 1969-1977 Fiat 130 was LITERALLY the same as the 1957-1970 Lancia Flaminia. Large european Sedan and Coupé, V6 engines of roughly the same size, somewhat innovative and well engineered. They even have very similar driving characteristics. Both were also financial flops and have not received an adequate successor from their respective manufacturers. Yes, Fiat bought Lancia in 1969 but the 130 was in development for a fair few years prior.

The predecessor to the land cruiser was literally the b engined jeep (bj)...does that count?

Well technically yours is an FZ engined Jeep (FZJ), but that is besides the point. I am looking for cars that would totally pass as a successor to another car built by a different company.

I’d say the Hyundai Veloster (Began production in 2011) is a proper successor to the Honda CRX (Ended production in 1998, if we’re counting the Del Sol, 91 if we aren’t, still less than 25 years). It might slightly be a spiritual successor, but it was far better than Honda’s actual CRX successor.

Well the “J” today means “wagon body” where originally it literally meant “JEEP” in that Toyota built a direct successor to the willys Jeep (under contract) only using their domestic production and style. It many ways it was a superior and direct successor to the Willys jeep

It’s really an acquired taste, I didn’t like it at first either, but it’s grown on me.

Does the Accord count as a successor to the Camry? And vice versa?

Same car built by different manufacturers because of a war.
